Who I Am
My name is Cathryn, and I'm attempting to run 500+ kilometers across Sri Lanka—from Kilinochchi to Matara—to set a Guinness World Record while raising funds for charity.
I first came to Sri Lanka in 2024 following one of the most difficult periods of my life. In the aftermath of personal struggles, I found something on this island that I hadn't felt in a long time: peace.
Through the warmth, kindness, and generosity of its people, Sri Lanka became a place of healing — and, unexpectedly, the birthplace of an idea that would change everything.
That same month, one thought took hold: "I want to run the length of Sri Lanka."
Not long after, that idea was put on hold when I was told I needed full foot reconstruction surgery. Doctors advised against running altogether, warning of the risk of multiple fractures and long-term damage.
But in that moment, something shifted.
I don't come from a running background. I'm not a professional athlete. But I became determined to prove something — to myself and to others — that we are often far more capable than we believe, and that the limits we place on ourselves are usually far greater than the limits of the human body.
From that defiance and purpose, The Unbroken Island was born.
This challenge is more than a Guinness World Record attempt. It is a tribute to Sri Lanka's resilience, strength, and spirit — qualities I will need every single step of the journey. But it is also a mission to give back to the island that gave so much to me, by raising money for charity that support Sri Lankan communities.
I am by no means superhuman, just an ordinary person attempting something extraordinary in the name of history… And I will not stop until the goal is achieved.
